Definition of Fees
Connect Fee will be charged for establishing each new electric account, including temporary service. This fee is to cover the cost of reading the meter when establishing new service with YVEA. If a customer uses a past reading as a connect date which requires no one to physically read the meter, the connect fee will be waived.
Electric is the cost of the commodity delivered to the customer. It is based upon the number of kilowatt-hours (kWh) used in the billing cycle. The calculation is the rate times the number of kilowatt-hours used.
- Residential rate = $0.05613 per kWh
- Commercial rate = $0.06249 per kWh
Security Light is the monthly charge for a security light the customer has requested to be installed at the account. The charge is prorated based upon the number of days in the billing cycle.
Consumer Charge is a fee YVEA charges all customers to have service available irrespective of the customer’s electric usage. It is based upon the amortized cost of having service available, the cost of reading the meter each month and the cost of processing and mailing a bill each month. The actual cost will vary each month based upon the number of days in the billing cycle.
- Residential = $12.50 per 30.42 days
- Commercial = $24.00 per 30.42 days
Xcel Fuel Adjustment and SYL Xcel Fuel (for security lights) is a charge YVEA passes on from its power supplier - Xcel Energy. The charge is directly related to the Xcel Energy’s cost of producing electricity with natural gas or buying additional needed energy on the spot market. The charge will vary each month and is based upon the kWh used in the billing cycle. It is a direct pass through charge and YVEA does not make a profit on this charge.
Franchise Fee or OCC Charge is a fee imposed upon all electric users within the city limits of said community for the use of public right of way and space. The amount of money collected each month is remitted quarterly to the community. YVEA does not make any profit from or for collection of this fee. This fee is imposed upon all rate classes.

- City of Craig OCC charge is 1.476 %
- Town of Hayden is 3%
- Town of Yampa is 3%
City Tax is a tax YVEA collects on behalf of the town or city in which you reside. The amount of money is collected each month and is remitted monthly to the community. YVEA does not make any profit from or for collection of this fee. This tax is imposed upon every rate classes.
- City of Steamboat Springs is 4.5%
- City of Craig is 2.25%
- Town of Hayden is 4 %
- Town of Yampa is 2%
State Tax is a tax YVEA collects on behalf of the State of Colorado or the State of Wyoming. The amount of money collected is remitted to the appropriate State each quarter. YVEA does not make any profit from or for collection of this fee. The State of Colorado exempts residential rates from paying the tax. The State of Wyoming applies the tax to all rates.
Disconnect for Non-Payment fee will be assessed each time a YVEA employee is dispatched to the customer’s premises to collect monies or disconnect service for non-payment.
- During normal business hours: $50.00
- After business hours (after 4:30 pm): $110.00
Returned Payment Charge of $20 will be charged each time a check or electronic funds transfer cannot be processed due to insufficient funds, lack of available credit or other bank return.
