Caring Consumers Info
For over 68 years, Yampa Valley Electric has met the electrical needs of its member-owners. YVEA’s principal goal has always been to provide quality service to our members. Providing electric service has meant not only dependable, low cost electricity, but also innovative programs designed to aid our members and communities.
In keeping with this spirit, YVEA introduced the Caring Consumers program in 1999. Caring Consumers will enable you, as a cooperative member, to donate to community causes by automatically rounding up your electric bill to the next highest dollar. For example, if your bill is actually $45.23, you will write a check for $46.00. The 77 cent difference will go into a fund from which donations are made to individuals and organizations. The average cost per member will be $6.00 per year. Individually, it won’t be a lot, but in total the funds will enable the Caring Consumers Foundation to fill the needs of many.
Caring Consumers has a separate Board of Directors from that of Yampa Valley Electric. The current Caring Consumers Board includes Ms. Wanda Redmond from Yampa, Ms. Winnie DelliQuadri from Steamboat Springs, (yet to be named person)from Craig, Mr. Sam Haslem from Hayden and YVEA President and General Manager Larry Covillo. This Board of Directors is responsible for allocating the funds raised through our member participation.
Funding from Caring Consumers is available to anyone (both individuals and/or organizations) within YVEA’s service territory. Non-profit agencies or organizations must present Form 501-C3 to show their tax exempt status.
YVEA General Manager Larry Covillo stated, “This community service fund raising program has being implemented by electric cooperatives nationwide. After reading of their success, I was surprised to learn how much good can be done by rounding electric bills up a few cents each month”.
If you wish to participate in the Caring Consumers program by rounding up your electric bill, contact your local YVEA office.
