New Service Guidelines

To avoid unnecessary delays in obtaining electric service from Yampa Valley Electric, please review the following:

FIRST - Contact the appropriate YVEA Field Representative that provides service to your home site.

  • Larry Ball
    direct phone line is 970-871-2282
Mr. Ball provides service to the residents of Steamboat Springs and areas in close proximity.
  • Russ Kopsa
    direct phone line is 970-871-2286
Mr. Kopsa provides service to most residents of Routt County (East of the Hayden Power Plant), including the communities of Phippsburg, Yampa, McCoy, Bond and Burns. He also provides service to that portion of service territory which YVEA serves in Eagle, Grand and Rio Blanco Counties.
  • Stan Fox
    direct phone line is 970-824-1468
Mr. Fox provides service to residents in Routt County, West of the Hayden Power Plant, including the Community of Hayden. He also provides service to Moffat County, including the City of Craig and that portion of Carbon County WY which YVEA serves.

If you have building plans that require YVEA to sign off on them, please leave your plans at the Job Planning Information Center so that a YVEA customer representative can review them to identify a meter location.  Your customer representative will notify you when the review is complete or if there are issues to be resolved.  The plan review may take up to three business days.  Visit the Job Planning Information Center at YVEA’s office in Steamboat Springs for most job related information.

SECOND - Once a contract has been issued to you, make payment for the invoice and complete the application for electric service. Only then will YVEA place you on the construction schedule. Then contact YVEA Operations (970-871-2283 in Steamboat or 970-824-1483 in Craig) and asked to be placed on the schedule.

THIRD - You will need to obtain the necessary city, county and/or state electrical inspections. By Colorado State Law, an electric utility cannot connect service to any meter until it receives hand delivered authorization from the appropriate electrical inspector. YVEA cannot accept phone notification of inspection approvals and/or faxed electrical inspections. This law applies to the Construction meter referred to as a CES and the permanent meter referred to as a TES.

Some conditions that may affect your electric installation are:

  • The Association will not connect any residential or duplex service to a meter socket that was not provided by YVEA free of charge.
  • YVEA provides meter sockets that allow for two runs of cable to be connected to the customer side of the socket (often required with rural residences using domestic wells).
  • All multi-metered locations must have brass tags identifying the meter socket for each unit.

The information contained in this site is typical of electrical service installations. Please contact your field representative for specific details regarding your electric service.
