Call 811 Before You Dig!
Remember, if you’re going to dig, you have to call 1-800-922-1987 or simply dial 811. State law requires anyone who is planning to excavate to call the number at least 48 hours before digging.
So before you grab your shovel and start planting that tree or putting in that post, call the Utility Notification Center of Colorado by dailing 811. Then, you will be notified of any dangers lurking underground, like utility lines or gas lines.
Anyone placing a call must be prepared to pinpoint the location of the dig site, describe the work to be done and give the planned start date and time. The start date should be at least two, but not more that 10 business days before the call. If you have an excavating project planned, call the notification center phone line. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (including holidays).
