What is the Yampa Valley Electric Association Scholarship Program?

This program is designed to encourage the academic achievements of the high school seniors or current undergraduate students who live in the YVEA service territory. The scholarship must be used for educational costs and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year of which the scholarship is given. Checks will be made payable jointly to the student and the college and must be endorsed by both parties. The scholarship will be paid 50% first semester and 50% second semester. All scholarship recipients must maintain academic status to claim both fist and second semester scholarship awards.

What You Need to Know About YVEA Scholarships

What Are The Eligibility Requirements?

•    Be a high school senior

•    Be accepted into an undergraduate degree program at any two or four-year university, college,   vocational or technical school

•    Live in a primary residence served by YVEA

•    Complete the scholarship application and answer the three essay questions

•    Be able to provide proof of acceptance to above listed educational institution

How Are Recipients Selected?

Awards are based on submitted essay responses. Those essays will be evaluated based on content, originality, and structure/grammar. 

What Are The Recipient's Obligations?

Scholarship recipients may be asked to submit a photo, answer questions for YVEA’s monthly publication, and/or be asked to attend a monthly YVEA board meeting. Please note that inability to meet these requests will not jeopardize the recipient’s ability to receive the awarded scholarship. 

How Do I Apply?

To apply you must complete the scholarship application, which can be obtained online at www.yvea.com/scholarships, from your local high school guidance counselor or at Yampa Valley Electric Association offices. 

Due to COVID-19 precautions, our lobbies in Steamboat & Craig are closed until further notice. Preferred method for submitting applications is via email to scholarships@yvea.com. Applicants may also mail to 2211 Elk River Road, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487 or leave in drop boxes outside Steamboat and Craig office locations by April 2, 2021 to be eligible. Please call 970-879-1160 if you have any questions. 

Scholarships Awarded 2020

YVEA's new scholarship fund that was created with unclaimed credits received 26 applications that year. Fifteen scholarships were awarded to the following students:
