A TRUSTED NEIGHBOR, YVEA EXISTS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE COMMUNITY.
A good neighbor talks like you, speaks to you in a way you can understand, and is as much a part of the community as you are. We wanted to rewrite our mission statement to reflect this - easy to understand, without complication. We wanted our mission statement to be bigger than words on paper - it needed to be a promise we could keep for our members and ourselves.
“To provide power people can count on, service they know by name, and solutions that make sense for where and how they live.”
‘Power people can count on’–that’s our essential service.
‘Service they know by name’–that’s every employee at YVEA.
‘Solutions that make sense’–that’s our co-op difference. Our privilege to deeply understand the community we serve and support those we call neighbors.
The vision needs to do two things at once: honor the steadiness and trust YVEA is known for, and also reflect what’s changing around us.
“A future where our members experience smarter, more resilient energy that strengthens our community for generations.”
‘Smarter, more resilient’ is about being prepared—so members can feel confident through whatever comes next: electrification, new technologies, demand growth, grid modernization, and the realities of cost pressure. The decisions YVEA makes will always be in the interest of bettering the community.
And ‘strengthens our community for generations’ is the co-op heart. This vision says: we’re not optimizing for profit. We’re building an energy future that protects what people value here—homes, livelihoods, stability, and continuity.
This level of strategic revitalization had us reassessing and realigning our values as well–in a way that would bolster our new strategy, complement our revitalized mission and vision, and ring true to the way YVEA does business.
These values we developed weren’t invented. They were surfaced through our conversations with employees and members of the community.
Integrity–doing right by members and each other.
Respect–for people and the place that unites us.
Presence–showing up, consistently, year after year.
Respect–for people and the place that unites us.
Presence–showing up, consistently, year after year.
Stewardship–protecting what we’ve built and preparing for what’s next.
When we live these values as an organization, the brand becomes real.
Over time, it delivers on its promise and builds trust - two things we know are so important to our members.
So now we have figured out the promises we want to make and keep and what will be driving us forward as an organization, how do we bring all of this to life visually? Read our next blog, “Connected Valley,” to learn more about how we created our new visual identity.
